How to Care for Your Jewellery

Your jewellery deserves the utmost care to maintain its beauty and longevity. Here are some essential tips:

Store your unworn jewellery flat in the eco-friendly jewellery box provided at the time of purchase or in your own jewellery box. This safeguards against scratches and damage.

Always remove your jewels when engaging in practical activities to prevent damage or gemstone scratches. Take them off when washing hands, showering, participating in sports, or sleeping.

Refrain from exposing your jewellery to household chemicals, hand sanitisers, perfumes, hairsprays, or moisturiser products. These substances can tarnish and discolour precious metals, gold plating, and gemstones. It's especially critical for porous gemstones and beads like Lapis Lazuli, Coral, Pearl, Opal, Emerald, Onyx, Agate, and Dolomite. These softer gemstones need special care as such products can corrode their surfaces and make them loose their colour, in certain cases staining your skin.

With your Coral pieces keep away from chemicals and extreme temperatures and clean gently with a soft cloth or lukewarm water.

Different types of pearls are produced in various regions and have distinct characteristics. Here's more detail on each type of pearl, how they are produced, and where they are typically found:

Akoya Pearls

Akoya pearls are primarily cultivated in Japan and China. They are grown in Akoya oysters, which are smaller in size. A small bead nucleus is inserted into the oyster, and the oyster then coats it with layers of nacre.

Akoya pearls are known for their high luster, round shape, and a colour range that includes white, cream, and sometimes with pink overtones.

Freshwater Pearls

Freshwater pearls are mainly produced in China, and other countries like the United States. They are grown in mussels, and multiple pearls can develop in a single mussel.

Freshwater pearls come in various shapes, sizes, and colors, including white, pastel shades, and even purples. They are often less expensive than other pearl types.

Tahitian Pearls

Tahitian pearls, often called "black pearls," are cultivated primarily in French Polynesia. They are grown in black-lipped oysters native to the region.

Tahitian pearls are known for their dark, exotic colors, including shades of black, peacock green, and gray. They are larger in size and highly valued for their unique hues.

South Sea Pearls

South Sea pearls are typically produced in the warm waters of Australia, the Philippines, and Indonesia. They are grown in white-lipped or gold-lipped oysters.

South Sea pearls are some of the largest and most valuable pearls. They can be white, golden, or silver in colour, known for their exceptional size and luster.

Baroque Pearls

Baroque pearls can be found in various pearl-producing regions and oyster species. They are known for their irregular, non-symmetrical shapes.

Baroque pearls can be almost any shape, from free-form to more abstract. Their uniqueness lies in their irregularity, making each one distinctive.

Each type of pearl has its own charm and value, and their production is influenced by the region's environment and the type of oyster or mussel used. The cultivation and harvesting processes vary, but they all involve nurturing the growth of pearls within mollusks and the careful extraction of the pearls once they reach the desired size and quality.
