Branch Arts is thrilled to announce its collaboration with Vigour & Skills and Gothic House for a month-long exhibition titled "Reflection on Light," curated by Susie Lawson, co-founder of Branch Arts. The exhibition will take place at Gothic House in Charlbury, Oxfordshire, OX7 3PP, from March 20 to April 24, 2024.

Susie Lawson, with over two decades of experience in the arts, brings her expertise as a communications specialist and her extensive network of creatives to this collaboration. Her notable achievements include successful campaigns for esteemed institutions such as the Royal Academy and The Photographers' Gallery, as well as her consultancy work with prestigious clients like Frieze Masters and the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.

"Reflection on Light" features twelve female artists and makers from Vigour & Skills, the marketplace dedicated to supporting crafts, design, and artisans in the UK. This collaboration underscores the commitment to fostering creativity and innovation within the artistic community.

Bea Jareno Jewellery, one of Vigour & Skills' makers, presents a captivating gold ring piece as a special feature of the exhibition. Bea Jareno mixed 8gr of recycled 9kt yellow gold with 2gr of 14kt gold to create a unique colour alloy, resulting in a gold content of 41% (around 10kt), hallmarked by the London Assay Office at 9kt gold. She is immensely proud to have crafted this innovative blend for such a meaningful ring, which features a faceted emerald-cut London Blue Topaz gemstone elegantly encrusted within, truly making this a piece of art jewellery.

The exhibition's opening, coinciding with the Spring Equinox, sets the tone for a thought-provoking exploration of light and its impact. Visitors to Gothic House, the home of artists Andrew and Briony Lawson, will have the opportunity to experience the immersive display in the large 'gothic' music room, which naturally lends itself to a gallery setting. The exhibition will extend into the walled garden and studio, offering a multi-dimensional experience for art enthusiasts.

In addition to the visual display, the exhibition will feature a Talks + Events Programme, showcasing the cultural intrigue of Oxfordshire. Throughout the month, visitors can engage in talks and workshops with the makers from Vigour & Skills, with invited architects and curators participating in conversations about the artwork on display.

Bea's Personal Statement about this innovative piece;

"In crafting this gold ring, I explored the interplay of light and darkness, inspired by the theme of 'Reflection on Light.' Using the ancient technique of sand casting in my London studio, I melted 8 grams of 9kt yellow gold with 2 grams of 14kt rose gold, seeking to create a unique gold colour resulting in a blend of 41% gold content ( around 10kt gold) that will complement the emerald-cut London Blue Topaz gemstone encrusted within.

This ring symbolises nature's duality—darkness and light. Like nature itself, the darkness within this piece serves to enhance the brilliance of the light that emerges from the gold and the gemstone. Through a blend of high polish and matte finishes, I sought to accentuate the contrasting textures and hues, inviting the viewer to explore the depths of this juxtaposition. A contemplation of balance and harmony, echoing the beauty of the natural world”.
